Traveling in Puerto Rico

The Basics
Puerto Rico is a Caribbean island nation and part of the United States.
When traveling in Puerto Rico, expect to use USD, credit cards, and your phone service as you expect to in the United States.
Puerto Rico is in the Atlantic Standard Time (AST) timezone, UTC-04:00. AST is the same time as the United States eastern timezone in July.
While the primary spoken language in Puerto Rico is Spanish, expect to travel easily with Spanish or English language skills.
Old San Juan
Consisting of 400 restored buildings from the 16th- and 17th-century Spanish colonial period, this area in San Juan is steeped in history with an old-world and romantic charm.

El Yunque Rainforest
Covering 28,000 acres, and receiving more than 200 inches of rain per year, El Yunque National Forest is noted for its biodiversity. It has more than a dozen maintained trails for hiking, picnic pavilions, stone towers, rivers, and waterfalls. (tickets are needed, reserve ahead of time) We recommend el Angelito Trail for a pleasant hike that ends in a beautiful river. You do not need tickets for this trail.

Both islands have stunning nature and wildlife. The culture and architecture are just as colorful as the waters of the bright blue sea. Visit the pristine award winning Flamenco beach in Culebra and the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world at Mosquito Bay in Vieques. ( ferry tickets are needed leaving from Ceiba, reserve ahead of time).

Mar Chiquita Beach
Stunning beach surrounded by a reef that forms a natural "pond". Great for families and snorkeling but keep off of rocks!

Lake Dos Bocas
Lake Dos Bocas is an artificial lake that was created on 1942 as a hydroelectric power plant and works as a water reserve. The lake features a creative culinary experience, five restaurants that you are taken to by boat. You can board the boat from a dock called El Embarcadero that departs every hour and makes stops at all of the restaurants. The boat ride takes about 30 minutes where you can enjoy nature, the beautiful lake and think about the delicious food you could indulge.

Hacienda Muñoz
Beautiful farm with restaurant and coffee plantations. Their coffee is a three time Best Coffee People's Choice Awards winner. Tour the grounds and learn about the coffee making process. Remember to indulge in a hot cup of their java before leaving.
